Meet the Staff

Dawn Pegis, Director of Music

Dawn began directing muisc at Winnetka Covenant in 2004.

Before moving to WIlmette in 2004, Dawn was on the voice faculty of Oral Roberts University for 16 years and directed music at Aldersgate United Methodist in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She taught music classes for Baldwin Piano and Organ in Cincinnati 1980-1988.

Dawn is currently Kindermusik Educator at Creator Arts Center. She is the mother of Philip, Peter and Stephen West and is married to Chicago Symphony Orchestra cellist, Jonathan Pegis. Dawn also sings in the Chicago Symphony Chorus.

A native of Mason City,Iowa, Dawn graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. Following top honors in National Association of Teachers of Singing and an invitation to sing with American Youth Performs Choir and Orchestra at Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center Dawn pursued her Masters in Voice on a full scholarship at the College-Conservatory of Music/ University of Cincinnati. She was 1st place in the Regional Metropolitan Opera Auditions and the CCM Treigle-Corbitt Opera Scholarship competition as well as a winner in the CCM Concerto Competition. While Dawn has performed some complete operas such as Tosca with director Macon Delavan, she primarily enjoys oratorio and has performed as soloist in works from Bach to contemporary.

When Dawn is not teaching or singing, she enjoys sewing - especially hand quilting or crafting fabric ornaments to go with her Twelve Days of Christmas Quilt.
