Local Outreach Opportunities

Winnetka Covenant Church members are directly involved in service to our local community.

These volunteer programs depend on our monthly hands-on support.

During the pandemic changes, please disregard the information below.

We are unable to participate in the usual way with

Family Promise, Greater Chicago Food Depository or the Just Harvest Community Kitchen.

There is an opportunity to volunteer at the Greater Chicago Food Depository by going to their web site and signing up for a time that works for you.  Volunteering at the Food Depository will still benefit the Friendship Center.

  • Helps families who are temporarily homeless on the North Shore become self-sufficient again by finding housing and jobs. Our church works with 20 other area churches and synagogues, opening our doors to parents and kids for one full week, three times each year, to provide meals, temporary shelter and companionship.

  • Serves 700 Chicago-area food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters, distributing 164,000 donated meals each day to 678,000 adults and children in Cook County. Our church provides volunteers who help sort and pack food at its South Chicago warehouse on the third Saturday of each month. Our work directly supports the North Park Friendship Center.

  • Fights poverty and hunger in Rogers Park by providing free nutritious meals to the needy 365 days a year. Twice each month, our church volunteers prepare meals in our kitchen, and once-a-month, we head to Rogers Park to serve the food we have prepared.
