The rich music tradition at Winnetka Covenant Church began with the sharing of hymns of faith. In the 1950s, choral leadership brought the Adult Choir to a more prominent place in worship. Over the years, that tradition has been enhanced by a variety of programs for youth and adults that blend music with prayer and Word to stir our souls and lift our hearts. The music programs are open to all to offer praise to the Lord.
This ensemble typically features 20-30 voices and is open to anyone who wishes to share their gift at Sunday morning worship from September through early June. The choir also sings at special services and presents concert events once or twice a year. In celebration of the breadth and depth of sacred music written to the glory of God, the choir's repertoire includes a wide range of material. Classical pieces from Mozart, Bach, Beethoven and others are mixed with modern classics, spirituals, gospel songs and contemporary choruses. The choir is accompanied by dedicated and talented staff musicians and augmented occasionally by orchestra. (Rehearsals are Wednesday nights and as needed for special music).
Adult, Senior High and Junior High hand bell players perform regularly during Sunday services and for special events. The church is blessed with a beautiful set of instruments possessing a wonderful, rich sound. The bell choirs add a joyful voice to our worship time. (Rehearsals are Wednesday nights and Sundays).
The orchestral program is comprised of two groups. The All-Church Orchestra is an instrumental ensemble for all ages and all skill levels. The group brings together our children, our occasional players and our professionals to produce inspiring prelude music twice a year. The COWS, a student group of instrumentalists of all ages, provides prelude music throughout the church year.
