Winnetka Covenant Church

Welcome to Winnetka Covenant Church!

Church Building

Winnetka Covenant Church has been part of Chicago's suburban North Shore since being founded on faith in 1927. It is one of many congregations in the Evangelical Covenant Church, a denomination headquartered in Chicago but possessing a worldwide presence, ministry and mission.

We are on a journey of faith together. In our midst, we think you will experience worship rich in its music and message, fellowship warm and caring, and ministry that embraces and welcomes diversity born of different life and faith experiences. In the spirit of our savior Jesus Christ, we offer support and challenge through a wide array of opportunities, which span our many age groups and also explore our faith as one body.

We cordially invite you to explore our life together and sincerely hope you find God's Word and Spirit here. Come join us in our mission!

Adult Christian Formation at Winnetka Covenant

Rally Day Sunday is September, 12 and the first day of regular adult education classes will be September 19. The first class of the fall will be based on The Sermon on the Mount and will be led by Paul Moser and Walter Gast. It will continue through October 24.

The Sermon on the Mount offers Jesus' colorful snapshot of the Kingdom of God on Earth, in action. Often misunderstood as just a moral platform, the Sermon is instead a gripping portrait of God's children and their royal Father. It follows on the heels of Jesus' startling announcement of the emergence of God's reign on Earth (Matt. 4:17), and moves quickly to a picture of what it is for God's children to be like their heavenly Father (Matt. 5:48). "Like Father, like child" is the driving maxim of Jesus' Sermon. As a result, the Sermon is irreducibly God-as-Father-oriented, and not just moralistic. It concludes with what is required for humans to enter God's kingdom family, but its clear answer is widely misunderstood by Christians today.

We will spend six meetings allowing the life-giving Good News of the Sermon to sink in. Each meeting will include discussion and testimonies of specific ways the Sermon is reflected (or is not reflected) in our daily lives.
